A late home run by Alexander Palma helped the Biloxi Shuckers (42-68) rally late in a 3-2 defeat against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (56-53) on Sunday evening at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

For a second straight day, the Blue Wahoos struck in the first inning. Kameron Misner led off the frame with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a single by J.J. Bleday, giving Pensacola a 1-0 lead.

RHP Jesus Castillo (L, 4-9) held the Wahoos in check for the next three frames but allowed a second run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bleday singled with one out, stole second and scored on a single by Lazaro Alonso, pushing the Wahoos to a 2-0 advantage.

For the Wahoos, LHP Antonio Velez (W, 2-0) scattered four hits over six scoreless innings, striking out nine. Pensacola would add on a third run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Alonso, extending the Wahoos lead to 3-0.

Biloxi would break up the shutout in the top of the ninth inning. Thomas Dillard led off the inning with a single against RHP Colton Hock (S, 18) and Palma launched a 1-1 pitch over the left-field wall for a two-run homer, his 12th of the year, drawing the Shuckers within a run at 3-2. Hock retired the next two batters, closing out the victory for the Wahoos.

The Shuckers now return home for their final series of the season, a six-game series against the Tennessee Smokies, starting on Tuesday night at MGM Park. Biloxi is scheduled to send LHP Andy Otero (5-0, 2.33) to the hill while the Smokies will counter with RHP Javier Assad (4-8, 5.16) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be seen on MiLB.TV.
