Owens Stars, Shuckers Fall to Clingstones

COLUMBUS, GA – The Biloxi Shuckers (55-46, 20-16) fell to the Columbus Clingstones (47-53, 18-18), 3-2, in walk-off fashion for the second consecutive night at Synovus Park on Thursday night. Despite the loss, Shuckers starter Braylon Owens turned in his best Double-A start, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth, striking out 7 and limiting the Clingstones to one run over 6.0 innings. It marked his second Double-A start of at least 6.0 innings and his first since July 11 at Knoxville.
The Shuckers struck first against Atlanta Braves top prospect Cam Caminiti with a leadoff home run on the first pitch of the game from Josh Adamczewski, a 350-foot blast. It marked the third time a Shucker has led off a game with a home run this season. The game remained scoreless until the fifth, when Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. tied the game with an RBI double to left. In the sixth, Matthew Wood gave the Shuckers the lead, 2-1, with an RBI double to the wall in right. In the ninth, Ambioris Tavarez delivered the walk-off hit, a two-RBI double to right-center. LJ McDonough (4-2) earned the win while Sam Garcia (2-3) took the loss for the Shuckers.
At the plate, Mark Coley II (2-for-4) recorded the Shuckers lone multi-hit performance, while Blake Burke (1-for-5) extended his on-base streak to 23 consecutive games, a game shy of tying his longest streak of the season. Garrett Hodges (2.0ip, 0r) also earned his first Double-A hold with a pair of scoreless relief innings, including a strikeout.
The series continues on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:06 p.m. at Synovus Park. Manuel Rodriguez (10-3, 4.96) is slated to start for the Shuckers against Brett Sears (3-4, 3.64) for the Clingstones.
