For a second consecutive night, the Montgomery Biscuits (30-29) used a big sixth inning to top the Biloxi Shuckers (19-41) 12-3 on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Garrett Mitchell gave the Shuckers the lead instantly, connecting for a leadoff home run to left field, his first in Double-A, putting Biloxi up 1-0 one batter into the contest. Two batters later, Alexander Palma launched a no-doubter to left, sailing his homer over the parked train beyond the left field wall at Riverwalk Stadium, to double Biloxi’s advantage at 2-0.

LHP Leo Crawford got the start for Biloxi and pitched three hitless innings but allowed a run in the bottom of the second on a walk and two wild pitches. The Biscuits would tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Ruben Cardenas, his sixth of the year.

Biloxi responded with another homer in the top of the fifth inning, a solo shot from Gabriel Garcia, to take a 3-2 lead. Montgomery struck back with a solo home run from Jim Haley in the bottom of the fifth inning, bringing the game even at 3-3.

The Biscuits moved ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. Montgomery loaded up the bases and three runs scored on a single and an error, putting the Biscuits up 6-3. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and Garrett Whitley chased RHP Zach Vennaro (L, 1-2) with a solo home run, giving Montgomery an 8-3 lead. The Biscuits would tack on one more in the inning, giving them six runs in the sixth after plating five in the sixth on Tuesday night.

Biloxi had an opportunity to get a run back in the top of the seventh when Garcia singled with men on first and second, but Luis Castro was thrown out at home trying to score on the single. Montgomery would add on three more in the home half of the seventh, extending their lead to 12-3.

The Shuckers continue their six-game series against the Biscuits on Thursday. RHP Noah Zavolas (2-5, 5.57) is scheduled to start for Biloxi against Biscuits’ RHP Easton McGee (0-0, 5.82) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be streamed on MiLB TV.
