The Biloxi Shuckers (12-9) fell in their series finale 4-1 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (9-12) on Sunday afternoon at MGM Park.

LHP Andy Otero (L, 1-1) allowed just one unearned run while he was on the mound. Santiago Chavez reached on an error in the third, the next two batters walked and a double play allowed the first run of the game to score, giving Pensacola a 1-0 lead.

The Shuckers offense had its best scoring opportunity against Wahoos’ RHP Bryan Hoeing (W, 2-1) in the bottom of the first. Luis Urias was hit by a pitch with one out and two batters later Joey Wiemer doubled to left, putting two men in scoring position. Hoeing responded by striking out the next batter to strand both Urias and Wiemer. All told, Hoeing allowed just one more hit across seven innings, a one-out double by Noah Campbell in the third.

Pensacola scored the deciding runs in the sixth inning. After striking out Troy Johnston for the first out in the frame, Andy Otero walked Jerar Encarnacion and was lifted for RHP J.T. Hintzen. Griffin Conine homered in the next at bat, putting the Wahoos up 3-0. A double and an RBI single plated one more in the frame to give the Wahoos a 4-0 advantage.

Biloxi’s lone run came in the eighth inning. Gabe Holt singled to right and Campbell walked, putting two men on for Urias. The Brewers’ third baseman grounded a ball to short that forced out Campbell at second, but the throw to first sailed into the stands, scoring Holt from third on the error. The rally ended on a groundout and RHP Eli Villalobos (S,1) retired the Shuckers in order to secure the win for Pensacola.

Following an off day on Monday, the Shuckers begin a six-game series in Montgomery on Tuesday night. RHP Tyler Herb (2-1, 1.96) is scheduled to start for the Shuckers against Biscuits’ RHP Taj Bradley (1-0, 3.50) for a 6:05 pm first pitch.
