Shuckers Set Single-Season Franchise Stolen Base Record in Loss to Blue Wahoos

BILOXI, MS– The Biloxi Shuckers (55-51, 20-21) were beaten by the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (61-49, 25-16), 13-4 on Wednesday night at Keesler Federal Park. Despite the Shuckers dropping their seventh straight game, the team tied and surpassed the single season record for stolen bases with their 214th and 215th on a double steal in the fourth inning by Mike Boeve and Daniel Guilarte. The previous mark was set in 2023, and Biloxi still has a month remaining in the regular season.
The two squads traded runs in the first on an RBI walk by Brandon Compton in the road half and an RBI double by Andrew Fischer in the home half. Cristian Hernández drove in a run with a double in the second to give the Blue Wahoos a lead they would never relinquish. Pensacola continued to post runs with a six-spot in the fourth thanks to three homers in the frame with solo shots from Ethan O’Donnell and Payton Green, plus a grand slam by Connor Caskenette to make it 8-1. Biloxi brought home a run in the fourth as well on an RBI groundout by Mark Coley II. The teams each tacked on two runs in the fifth after a base knock by Hernández plated a pair for the Blue Wahoos, and Damon Keith collected a two-run dinger for his first back from the Injured List, off the bat at 102 mph, going 384 feet, which put the score at 10-4. Pensacola picked up three more runs between the final four innings with a Brandon Compton bomb in the sixth, an Ian Lewis Jr. run-scoring single, and an RBI hit-by-pitch by Compton.
Damon Keith’s (1-for-4) homer consisted of the lone multi-RBI performance by a Shucker, with Mike Boeve (2-for-4) and Daniel Guilarte (2-for-3) getting a pair of hits in the ballgame.
The Shuckers are back in action against the Blue Wahoos at Keesler Federal Park on Thursday night. Braylon Owens (1-1, 4.60) toes the bump for Biloxi, with Eliazar Dishmey (3-1, 3.02) set to deal for Pensacola.
