Hello from Maryvale and American Family Fields of Phoenix! The Milwaukee Brewers and the Biloxi Shuckers are deep into Spring Training as the Shuckers prepare for the team’s opener on Friday, April 3, against the Rocket City Trash Pandas. The team is scheduled for their home opener on Tuesday, April 7, against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Minor League Spring Training games are in full swing at the backfields across the Cactus League and multiple former and future Shuckers are getting chances to fill in and impress in MLB games.

WEDNESDAY

During one of the hottest days in the Cactus League this spring, the Shuckers were in action across Arizona as the Brewers played a split-squad match-up against the Angels and Mariners.

On the back fields, the minor league side held an intrasquad game, including an appearance by K.C. Hunt, coming off a season where he finished the season among the Southern League leaders in starts (T-3rd, 26), strikeouts (7th, 122), innings (7th, 121.1) and WHIP (7th, 1.27).

Other appearances on the backfield included potential 2026 Andrew Fischer, who demolished a home run to center on the first pitch he saw in his return to camp after starring for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic.

In Maryvale, half of the big league side was in action against the Los Angeles Angels. On the mound, Brian Fitzpatrick (1.0ip) and Jesús Broca (0.1ip) both appeared.

In the other half of the split squad, in Peoria, multiple former and potential future Shuckers were in action against the Mariners. Standouts included Cooper Pratt (3-for-3) and Marco Dinges (2-for-4), who ripped a double after just missing a second-inning home run against former Top-100 prospect Emerson Hancock.

THURSDAY

Thursday saw the Shuckers in action for the first time on the trip, with a matchup against the Athletics Double-A affiliate, the Midland Rockhounds, in Mesa. Not only was the Shuckers lineup loaded with prospects, including Jesús Made, Josh Adamczewski, Blake Burke and Andrew Fischer, but they faced 40th-ranked overall prospect Gage Jump.

Notable moments included doubles from Dylan O’Rae, returning from a season-long injury in 2025, Blake Burke and Josh Adamczewski. Burke, likely set to start 2026 in Biloxi, torched the Southern League with a .300/.377/.579 slash line and 11 home runs across 37 games last season.

Andrew Fischer also worked a few great plate appearances, including an eight-pitch battle with Jump and a walk later in the game. Kay-Lan Nicasia also showcased his power in the late innings, with a towering home run to right-center to seal a 6-2 win.

The highlight of the day, however, came in the early afternoon on the big league side, where Jackson Chourio, William Contreras and Nestor Corredor returned to Maryvale after winning the World Baseball Classic title. The pair took batting practice in their Venezuela uniforms while Corredor proudly displayed his gold medal prior to the game.

FRIDAY

While 15 former Shuckers took part in the first Spring Breakout game, former Shucker Jacob Misiorowski took center stage, as he was announced as the Brewers’ Opening Day starter.

Misiorwoski, set to become the third-youngest Opening Day starter in Brewers franchise history, is one of four former Shuckers to make an Opening Day start this year. Other former Shuckers include Freddy Peralta (Mets), Drew Rasmussen (Rays) and Shane Smith (White Sox), who is set to face Misiorowski at American Family Field.

In the Spring Breakout game, Jesús Made (1-for-2), Cooper Pratt (1-for-3) and Luis Lara (1-for-2) all reached for the Brewers prospects. All three also starred defensively, with a jump-throw to first from Pratt at short, a running catch in right-center from Lara and a quick throw to the plate from Made to cut down a runner breaking from third. Others to record a hit include potential Shucker Andrew Fischer (1-for-1, 2B), who continues to showcase a hot bat this spring, and Daniel Dickinson (1-for-2, 2B), the Brewers’ sixth-round pick last year from LSU

On the mound, four former Shuckers appeared, including Bishop Letson (1.1ip, 1k), Brian Fitzpatrick (0.2ip), Will Childers (1.0ip) and Jaron DeBerry (2.0ip, 3k).

Misiorowski and Logan Henderson (2.0ip, 3k) also made their final Spring Training appearances of the spring against the Diamondbacks. Jackson Chourio, in his first game back from the World Baseball Classic, ripped a double down the left-field line in his first plate appearance. Freddy Zamora shined in a starting role, including a 425-foot home run off Zac Gallen.

NOTABLE QUOTES

JACOB MISIOROWSKI (on facing Shane Smith on Opening Day): “I saw it on Instagram that Shane got the nod and was going to go Opening Day and I was excited for it either way. It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

BREWERS MANAGER PAT MURPHY (on Cooper Pratt’s maturity): “He’s got great maturity, great baseball maturity. He grew up in baseball and it’s a family of baseball people. It’s easy to see that he gets it. He’s a great person and the teammate that he is, is unmatched.”

BREWERS MANAGER PAT MURPHY (on Cooper Pratt’s defense): “He knows the game. He knows the pace of the game. His internal clock is really really good. He doesn’t think of himself as good as he really is. He’s just really humble.”

BREWERS MANAGER PAT MURPHY (on Jeferson Quero): “It’s remarkable where he’s come from. Because that injury [right shoulder labrum tear], you know, can backfire, and he looks fantastic. Now he’s not back to normal or throwing the ball the way he did, but to be where he is, it’s a great testament to his work and his attitude.”

JARON DeBERRY (on Spring Training): “Spring Training’s been great because I’ve gotten to learn a lot more about my process and my routine. Last year was a little bit of a road bump, but this year, ramping up on time has been a great thing and having conversations, not only with the big leaguers, but with guys who have been in my shoes, like a Tate Kuehner. Those are the guys you really want to talk to because they’ve been [in Biloxi] last year and going through what I’m going through.”
