Wood Slugs Third Grand Slam of the Season, Shuckers Beat By Blue Wahoos

BILOXI, MS– The Biloxi Shuckers (55-53, 20-23) fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (63-49, 27-16), 9-4 on Friday evening at Keesler Federal Park. The Shuckers were shutout in the final eight innings of the ballgame, after Matthew Wood got his third grand slam of the season in the first. That marks the most by a Shucker in a single season and ties the most by any Shucker in franchise history, matching Nick Ramirez (2018 & 2019) and Brock Wilken (2023-2025).

Brandon Compton broke the seal on the ballgame in the top of the first for the Blue Wahoos with an RBI double before Wood’s aforementioned grand slam in the home half, which was 104 mph off the bat and traveled 352 feet and gave the Shuckers a 4-1 lead. Pensacola picked up eight unanswered runs the rest of the way, with an Adrian Santa 2-RBI double in the second, a Juan Matheus run-scoring single in the seventh, another Santana two-bagger in the eighth to bring home three, a Cristian Hernández RBI double in that same frame, and Colby Shade coming home on a wild pitch in the ninth.

Matthew Wood (1-for-4) drove in all of the Shuckers runs, for his fifth 4-RBI game this season. Daniel Guilarte (2-for-4) posted the lone multi-hit performance and has collected a pair of hits twice in his last three games.

Jaydenn Estanista got the win for the Blue Wahoos, with Jesús Broca (3-5) getting the loss.

The Shuckers are back in action against the Blue Wahoos at Keesler Federal Park on Thursday night. It’s Bishop Letson’s (5-5, 4.60) bump day in Biloxi, with Jacob Kisting (1-0, 0.00) countering for Pensacola. The Biloxi Mudbugs return for the third time this season, with a themed water bottle giveaway for the first 1,500 fans presented by the Beau Rivage. A selection of crawfish-themed foods will also be available at the concession stands for a limited time.
