JUPITER, Fla. - After the rainout on Friday, Bradenton and Jupiter took a game apiece in the double header on Saturday, in a day entirely dominated by pitching. Bligh Madris was the hero in the first game, as the outfielder blasted a go ahead, two-run homer in the top of the final inning in the first game, and James Marvel took a no-hitter into the sixth inning in the nightcap.
The Hammerheads scored a run in the very first inning of the inaugural game and would not score another run until the bottom of the sixth in Game Two. Cade Gotta singled in the bottom of the first in Game One, stole second base and was brought around to score on an RBI single. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the seventh inning, when Adrian Valerio led off with a single, and watched as the very next batter, Bligh Madris, blasted a home run off a light pole beyond the right field wall to put the visitors up 2-1. Scooter Hightower slammed the door in the bottom of the inning to earn his first save of the season, backing up the solid start by Eduardo Vera, who tossed the first six innings while spreading out five hits and no runs allowed.
In Game Two, pitching continued to reign supreme with both starting pitchers lasting a full six innings, but Jupiter starter Sam Perez allowed only a pair of hits and took the victory over James Marvel who retired the first 15 batters he faced before allowing three runs to score on three hits and a sacrifice fly in the very last inning, proving to be too much for the Marauders bats to come back from. Albert Baur was the lone offensive standout in the finale, registering two hits in his three at bats, two of the three hits for Bradenton in the contest.
Bradenton finishes their four game set at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter with a day game on Sunday. LHP Oddy Nunez gets the ball for the Marauders and will be opposed by RHP Robert Dugger for Jupiter, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
