Cedar Rapids, IA - The Minnesota Twins announced today that former Kernels Mitch Garver and Aaron Slegers have been named the Twins Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year.
Garver played for the Kernels during the 2014 season, batting .298 with 16 HR and 79 RBI in 120 games. This season he played in 88 games at Triple-A Rochester where he hit .291 with 17 HR and 45 RBI. He was called up to the Twins in August and played 23 games, batting .196 with a double, three triples and 3 RBI.
Slegers also pitched for the Kernels during the 2014 season, making 20 starts and posting a 7-7 record and 4.53 ERA. In 113.1 IP, he allowed 118 hits and 66 runs (57 earned) with 20 walks and 90 strikeouts. Slegers made 24 starts at Triple-A Rochester in 2017, posting a 15-4 record and 3.40 ERA with one complete game. He was called up to the Twins and appeared in four games (3 starts), posting an 0-1 record and 6.46 ERA.

The Kernels begin the 2018 Midwest League season at Quad Cities on Thursday, April 6th. The 2018 home opener is set for Saturday, April 8th at 5:05 PM against Quad Cities.
