RiverDogs Outfielder Alex Palma Sidelined, Florial Joins Charleston for Final Stretch

18-year-old outfielder immediately drops in as one of the youngest players in the SALLY League circuit
September 1, 2016

CHARLESTON, SC - With just five games remaining before postseason play begins, the New York Yankees have announced a pair of RiverDogs roster moves with OF Estevan Florial joining Class A Charleston with OF Alexander Palma being placed on the 7-day disabled list with a lower body injury on Thursday.

The RiverDogs now have two pieces of their lineup currently on the disabled list with All-Star first baseman Chris Gittens also sidelined. The club leader in home runs and RBIs is eligible to come off as early as Friday.

Palma was removed from Tuesday night's contest at The Joe after pulling up on his way to first base in a ground out to short in his second at-bat of the night. With the move to the 7-day disabled list retroactive to August 31, Palma would be eligible to come off the DL as early as Thursday, September 8, the day after the RiverDogs' first road playoff game. The Venezuelan outfielder was hitting .265/.292/.420 with six homers and 37 RBI in 64 games with Charleston.

Florial, 18, gets the call up from rookie ball Pulaski where the Haitian outfielder batted to the tune of a .225/.315/.364 slash line with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 60 games with the Yankees in just his second minor league season. Florial becomes just the fifth 18-year-old position player to feature in the South Atlantic League this year, and the second to suit up for the RiverDogs in 2016.

Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees in March of 2015, the Port Au Prince native began his pro career in the nearby Dominican Republic where he hit .313 with 11 doubles, eight triples, and 7 homers to lead the DSL Yankees 1 in extra-base hits in 62 games.

After their final homestand wraps up with Thursday night's home finale against Hagerstown, the RiverDogs finish up the season on the road in Columbia, taking on the Fireflies in a four-game series from September 2-5 at Spirit Communications Park. Postseason play begins with game one of the best-of-three SAL Divisional Series on the road on Wednesday, September 7 with their first round opponent still to be determined with the Augusta GreenJackets and Rome Braves separated by just a game in the second half standings.

Ticket information for the RiverDogs homestand can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com. Tickets for Game Two of the SAL Divisional Series on Friday, September, 9 at 7:05pm are now available. Those that can't make it to the park can follow every pitch of the RiverDogs season on WTMA 1250 AM and streaming online at riverdogs.com.
