(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) -- LHP Matt Tomshaw pitched into the sixth inning, first baseman Matt Skole recorded a team-high three hits, and the Charlotte Knights battled back to win game one of their four-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 5-4 on Monday night from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The win was Charlotte's second of the season against Gwinnett in four tries.

Tomshaw (2-0, 7.47), who beat Gwinnett for a second time this season, improved to 2-0 overall on the season with the Knights since his promotion from Double-A Birmingham on April 23rd. The 29-year-old left-handed pitcher allowed four runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He struck-out five and was helped out by the club's steady bullpen, which once again got the job done. Three Charlotte relievers (LHP Colton Turner , RHP Thyago Vieira , and RHP Gregory Infante ) combined to hold the Stripers scoreless over the final 3.1 innings. Infante earned his second save of the season.

Skole, who finished the night 3-for-4 with two doubles, and a run scored, led the way offensively for the Knights. The 28-year-old continued his hot hitting in the month of May. In six games this month, Skole is hitting .429 (9-for-21) with two home runs and three RBIs.

Additionally for the Knights, center fielder Charlie Tilson had a team-high two RBIs in the win. Tilson's two-run double in Charlotte's four-run third inning helped break open the game for the Knights. Third baseman Patrick Leonard chipped in with two hits, while shortstop Eddy Alvarez recorded his 12th hit of the season in his 12th game of the season.

The Knights will continue their four-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) from Lawrenceville, GA on Tuesday night.
