Knights Drop Finale to Bulls 15-9

(DURHAM, NC) – Right fielder Micker Adolfo launched two home runs, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls from Durham Bulls Athletic Park by a score of 15-9 on Sunday.

Charlotte’s offense pounded out a total of five home runs on Sunday despite the game six loss to the Bulls. Adolfo hit his first two career Triple-A home runs in the game. In all, Adolfo went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two home runs and five RBIs. He upped his batting average to .333 since joining the Knights from Double-A Birmingham on Wednesday.

Along with Adolfo’s two home runs, designated hitter Yermín Mercedes hit his sixth home run of the season in the top of the third inning. Two innings later, center fielder Blake Rutherford and left fielder Nick Williams also hit home runs. Rutherford had two hits on the day including his fifth home run of the season. Williams also had two hits and a home run, his fourth of the season.

LHP Bennett Sousa (0-1, 7.71) allowed three runs (two earned) in relief and was saddled with the loss. RHP Jonathan Stiever started for the Knights and allowed seven runs on six hits over 3.2 innings pitched.

The Bulls scored 15 runs on 15 hits to take the finale. Reliever Miller Hogan (1-0, 27.00) earned the win for the Bulls despite allowing three runs in just one inning of work.

The Knights will now have a scheduled off day on Monday before returning home to play seven games in six days from Truist Field against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
