(DURHAM, NC) – The Charlotte Knights dropped Thursday’s game three matchup against the Durham Bulls by a score of 3-2 from Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Durham pinch-hitter Josh Lowe hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Charlotte RHP Zack Burdi (0-2, 6.23) to give the Bulls the win.

RHP Alex McRae was sharp in his first start of the season for the Knights. McRae allowed just one run on one hit over four innings of work. He gave up Durham’s first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run to Esteban Quiroz. McRae threw 70 pitches on the evening.

Down by a score of 1-0, the Knights bounced back and scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Designated hitter Matt Reynolds tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI triple in the fourth. The Knights then took the lead on an RBI single from shortstop Tim Beckham. After homering in each of the first two games of the series, Beckham chipped in with two hits in Thursday’s game. Reynolds had a game-high three hits.

The Bulls tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth inning with help from top prospect Wander Franco, who launched a solo home run. The game stayed tied (2-2) until the bottom of the ninth inning when the Bulls charged back.

Burdi started the inning out of the Charlotte bullpen and got Quiroz to pop out for the first out in the ninth inning. He then ran into trouble with Lowe. Pinch-hitting for Wyatt Mathieson, Lowe ripped the second pitch of the at-bat for the game-winning home run over the left center field fence. It was Durham’s third win of the series.

The two teams will continue their series from Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
