(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) – Third baseman Jake Burger homered in his return to Uptown Charlotte, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by a score of 14-5 on Tuesday night from Truist Field.

Burger, who was optioned to the Knights from the Chicago White Sox on Monday, went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. The home run was his 11th of the season with the Knights. The 25-year-old hit .263 with a home run and three RBIs with the White Sox in 15 games before being optioned.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert joined the Knights before the game and went 0-for-2 with a walk on his rehab assignment. Robert, who had his rehab stint transferred from High-A Winston-Salem on Tuesday, hit .250 (3-for-12) with the Dash in four games. He is currently on Chicago’s 60-day injured list.

RHP Alex McRae started for the Knights and allowed three runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He also struck-out six batters. RHP Lane Ramsey (0-1, 9.00) was charged with the loss after he allowed two runs in relief of McRae.

The Knights will continue the series against the Jumbo Shrimp with game two at 7:04 p.m. on Wednesday night from Truist Field.
