(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) -- RHP Dylan Covey struck-out nine batters over 6.1 solid innings to help lead the Charlotte Knights to a 4-1 win over the Gwinnett Stripers on Wednesday from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The Knights have now won two of the three games in the four-game series and will have a chance for a series victory on Thursday.

Covey (3-1, 2.76) gave up just one run on four hits en route to his third win of the season with the Knights. The 26-year-old right-hander turned in his highest strikeout total in a game this season with nine. In total, Covey tossed 80 pitches (56 for strikes) on the day. Relievers Xavier Cedeño (1.1 IP) and Jeanmar Goméz (1.1 IP) combined to keep the Stripers scoreless the rest of the way. Goméz earned his second save of the season.

While Covey was sharp in his sixth start of the season with the Knights, Charlotte's offense jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice-fly RBI from first baseman Matt Skole . Two innings later, the Knights tacked on their second run of the game on an RBI groundout from third baseman Patrick Leonard .

Gwinnett scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning against Covey. Rob Brantly, a former catcher with the Charlotte Knights, singled home Danny Santana for Gwinnett's lone run of the afternoon. The Knights added two more runs along with way with help from shortstop Eddy Alvarez , who singled home designated hitter Jake Elmore in the seventh inning. Two innings later, Alvarez grounded into a double play, which scored second baseman Juan Perez from third base.

The Knights will conclude their four-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) from Lawrenceville, GA on Thursday in the finale of their series. KNIGHTS KNOTES: Infielder Eddy Alvarez finished the day 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. He extended his hit streak to six games and has now reached base in nine consecutive road games… RHP Jeanmar Goméz has not allowed a run over his last five games (9.2 IP)… LHP Xavier Cedeño has not allowed a run over his last five games (5.1 IP)… Outfielder Mason Robbins , who was added to Charlotte's active roster on Tuesday, made his Triple-A debut on Wednesday. Robbins was promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham on Monday… The Knights will return home to BB&T Ballpark on Friday, May 11th for a three-game series against the Durham Bulls… On Saturday, May 12th, the Knight will host their 13th Annual Pink Knights game presented by Charlotte Radiology.
