(JACKSONVILLE, FL) – The Charlotte Knights split Saturday’s doubleheader against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. The Jumbo Shrimp won game one by a score of 2-1 and the Knights won game two by a score of 2-1 in eight innings.

Both teams went into extra innings of game two scoreless. Charlotte shortstop Rubén Tejada launched a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning of game two to propel the Charlotte Knights to a 2-1 win over the Jumbo Shrimp. Tejada, who had three hits in Friday’s game, added three more hits on Saturday.

The Jumbo Shrimp scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning of game two, but Charlotte reliever Will Carter held on for the save. RHP Peter Tago (2-0, 0.00) earned the win after a scoreless seventh inning.

The Knights dropped game one by a score of 2-1. The Jumbo Shrimp scored both runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. LHP John Parke (2-3, 4.15), who was charged with the loss, gave up just two runs on five hits over five innings. He struck-out six batters and walked just one.

Offensively, the Knights managed just one run on four hits in game one. Mikie Mahtook scored Charlotte’s lone run in the top of the fourth inning on a fielding error.

The Knights will now have Sunday and Monday off before opening an 11-game homestand on Tuesday. The homestand features the final 11 home games of the 2021 season. First pitch on Tuesday, September 14 is set for 7:05 p.m. at Truist Field.
