(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights will continue their tribute to baseball history and host a special "Women in Baseball Night" at BB&T Ballpark on June 13th. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and first pitch against the Louisville Bats (Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) is on tap for 7:05 p.m. from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte. Crockett, Faut, and Kimbrell will be honored before the game during a pre-game ceremony.
Crockett was a two-time Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award winner (1980 & 1985) during her time running the Charlotte O's from 1976 to 1987. Over the course of her years at the helm, the O's brought home two Southern League Championships (1980 & 1984) and she was honored by The Sporting News with the Class AA Executive of the Year Award in 1980 -- becoming the first woman to win The Sporting News Award at any level. In 1982, she was profiled in Sports Illustrated for her leadership and tireless efforts to Charlotte baseball. Most recently, Crockett was honored by the Knights with a banner in the team's "Walk of Fame" at BB&T Ballpark. Last season, Crockett was inducted into the Charlotte Baseball Round Table of Honor.
From 1946 to 1953, Faut was a starting pitcher in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League. She is considered as the greatest overhand pitcher in the league's history. During her time on the baseball diamond, Faut compiled a lifetime record of 140-64 with a 1.23 ERA in 235 appearances. She also hurled two no-hitters, two perfect games, and led the South Bend Blue Sox to consecutive championships in 1951 and 1952. Additionally, Faut was a two-time Player of the Year Award winner (1951 and 1953), a four-time All-Star (1949-51, and 1953), and a two-time Triple-Crown winner (1952-53). Faut, 92, currently lives in Rock Hill, SC.
Kimbrell, a native of Fort Mill, SC , made history as the first female to play high school baseball and American Legion baseball in the state of South Carolina. Since then, she has competed in numerous baseball competitions, including being a key member of Team USA's women's baseball squad since 2006 and playing in the Women's Baseball World Cup on four separate occasions. Last year, Kimbrell joined two other women (Kelsie Whitmore and Stacy Piagno) and played for the Sonoma Stompers, a member of the Pacific Association Professional Baseball League, in Sonoma, Calif. Kimbrell also served on the Charlotte Knights grounds crew for nine seasons.
As part of Tuesday's game, the Knights will also be partnering with Safe Alliance to collect used cellphones.
