RHP Brad Goldberg Promoted to Charlotte

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Brad Goldberg, who posted a 1.50 ERA with seven strikeouts in four games this season with the Birmingham Barons (Double-A), has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. Goldberg, 26, will take the roster spot of LHP Matt Purke, who was assigned to the Barons. Charlotte's roster is now set at 25 active players.

Goldberg, a native of Cleveland, OH, has allowed just one earned run (three unearned) in six innings pitched this season with the Barons. The right-hander, who was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 10th round of the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft, posted a 1-4 record with a 2.97 ERA in 39 games last season for Winston-Salem (High-A). He compiled 11 saves last season, which were tied for fourth in the Carolina League. Goldberg is a product of Ohio State University.

Purke, 25, appeared in five games with the Charlotte Knights this season and compiled a 0-0 record with a 1.08 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched. The Nacogdoches, TX native was originally selected in the third round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft by the Washington Nationals. The Chicago White Sox signed the left-handed pitcher as a free agent on November 21, 2015.

The Charlotte Knights hit the road tonight and make the trek to Toledo, OH to open a three-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) at 5:05 p.m. from Fifth Third Field. RHP Chris Volstad (1-0, 1.02) will get the start for the Knights against Toledo LHP Matt Boyd (1-2, 2.25).
