DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—Daytona Tortugas infielder Carlos Sanchez has earned Florida State League Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, being honored for his performance during the week of April 19-May 4 after another productive week at home against Lakeland and on the road against Dunedin.
The 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic was previous named FSL Player of the Week for April 15-20. This week, Sanchez slashed .400/.455/.800, going 8-for-20 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Sanchez's week was highlighted by a 4-for-4 effort against Lakeland last Tuesday, a home run on Thursday, and extending his on-base streak to 22 straight games (before being snapped on Saturday), the longest by an FSL hitter this season.
In his second full season in Daytona and fourth professional season overall, Sanchez is slashing .375/.490/.600 with six doubles, three triples, two home runs, and 19 RBI, while adding 18 walks and 16 runs scored.
Sanchez is the first Tortuga to earn Player or Pitcher of the Week honors twice since Ibandel Isabel earned the award twice during the 2018 seaosn.
Sanchez and the rest of the Tortugas will begin a 12-game homestand tomorrow, May 6, with a weeklong six-game series with the Tampa Tarpons the first series up.
