Blandino, Chacin Picked as Dragons Players of the Month

DAYTON, OHIO-Shortstop Alex Blandino and right-handed relief pitcher Alejandro Chacin have been selected as the Dayton Dragons Batter and Pitcher of the Month for August.

The winning players will be honored during an inning break of the Dragons game tonight at Fifth Third Field vs. the Lansing Lugnuts. There will also be a Player of the Month luncheon tomorrow, Friday, August 29th, at Roosters, 5571 Merily Way in Huber Heights, at 12:00 noon. Fans may attend to ask questions to the winning players and receive autographs. The players will be available to the media for interviews.

Blandino is batting .273 in August with eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 11 runs batted in. He has posted a slugging percentage of .434 and an on-base percentage of .348 and has played every inning of every game since he joined the Dragons on July 29 (26 games in August). Blandino was selected by the Reds in the first round of the 2014 draft out of Stanford University.

Chacin has notched six saves in August with a 3.00 earned run average in nine relief appearances. Since July 1, Chacin has 15 saves to rank second in all of Minor League Baseball. He ranks second in Dragons history in career appearances (90) and tied for second in career saves (29).

Other nominees for the Dragons Batter of the Month for August were Ronald Bueno and Jose Ortiz. Other Pitcher of the Month nominees were Nick Travieso and Amir Garrett.

The Dragons host Lansing tonight and tomorrow at Fifth Third Field in the final regular season home games of 2014.
