Dragons National Anthem Tryouts This Weekend

February 26, 2014

DAYTON, OH - A traditional sign that baseball season is just around the corner in the Miami Valley is the Dayton Daily News / Dayton Dragons National Anthem Tryouts at the Dayton Mall and the Mall at Fairfield Commons. Auditions for the 2014 season's national anthem performers will be Saturday, March 1st at the Dayton Mall (Center Court) from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 2nd at the Mall at Fairfield Commons (Main Court) from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The winners will perform the national anthem at Dragons games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing at Opening Day 2014 before the Dragons host the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Field on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

The first 300 entrants who pre-registered for this event have been given a scheduled tryout time. However, there could still be a chance to perform at the tryouts on a standby basis. If one of our pre-registered performers is not present when their performance number comes up, or if we run ahead of schedule, we will pull performers from our standby list.

To register as a standby performer, contestants must come to the Saturday, March 1 tryouts at the Dayton Mall or the Sunday, March 2 tryouts at the Mall at Fairfield Commons. Performers will receive a standby number, and we will call this number when a spot becomes available. Standby performers are not guaranteed a chance to audition.

A panel of local citizens including Dayton Daily News columnists and editors, city officials and community leaders will be judging the event. The panel will make its selections based on voice quality, creative style, stage presence and appearance.
