The long list of Carlos Asuaje's accomplishments with the Greenville Drive in 2014 has added another note, as the infielder was selected by a fan vote as the Hale's Jewelers Player of the Year.
Asuaje defeated RHPs Jonathan Aro, Jacob Dahlstrand, Joe Gunkel and Teddy Stankiewicz, LH Daniel McGrath, C Jake Romanski, IFs Wendell Rijo and Jantzen Witte and OF Manuel Margot to win the award. He will receive an engraved Tissot watch courtesy of Hale's Jewelers in recognition of his outstanding season.
Prior to his promotion to the Salem Red Sox on July 19th, the Weston, Florida native played in 90 games with the Drive and finished at or near the top of the club in most offensive categories. He posted a .305 average with 99 hits, 24 doubles, 10 triples, 11 homers, 73 RBI, a .391 on-base percentage and a .542 slugging percentage. He also showed off his defensive versatility by starting games at third base, second base, shortstop and left field.
Asuaje wasn't the only person to win something for his efforts, as Drive fan Jason Greer was awarded a $500 savings certificate from Hale's Jewelers as a reward for voting on GreenvilleDrive.com for the Player of the Year award.
