Syracuse, NY --- Home runs from Kean Wong and Brandon Lowe shot the Durham Bulls past the Syracuse Chiefs 8-6 on Monday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
After Chris Dominguez hit a three-run, wind-blown home run in the second to give Syracuse (38-55) a 3-0 lead, the Bulls (54-39) had to withstand a 36-minute rain delay before roaring back against starter Brady Dragmire (L, 1-4). Following the delay, Nick Ciuffo doubled to center and scored on a single by Wong. Willy Adames drove a double to right to bring Wong home to cut the deficit to 3-2. Brandon Lowe then drilled a two-run home run to straightaway centerfield for a 4-3 Durham lead.
Pedro Severino tied the game in the bottom of the third with a home run against starter Forrest Snow, but the Bulls quickly established their second lead of the game. Jeremy Hazelbaker doubled into the right field corner ahead of Wong's blast to right-center in the fourth to put Durham ahead 6-4.
The Bulls added an unearned run in the sixth. Andrew Velazquez reached on a fielding error by shortstop Matt Reynolds. After advancing on a groundout, Velazquez stole third with two down and scored on a throw down into left field.
In the seventh, Justin Williams beat a potential double play grounder to allow Willy Adames to score for an 8-4 lead.
José Marmolejos connected for a two-run shot against winning pitcher Mike Franco (W, 3-1) in the seventh for the final runs of the game.
Franco collected the victory by pitching 2 2/3 innings, surrendering two runs while fanning two.
Wong finished 3-5 with three RBI, with Willy Adames, Lowe and Williams collecting two hits apiece.
Austin Pruitt (S, 1) pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his first save of the season.
Snow permitted four runs on six hits over four innings.
The Bulls established a 6 1/2 game South Division lead by winning the first game of a seven-game road trip, which continues Tuesday night at 6:35 PM ET with Jacob Faria scheduled to make a major league rehab start for the Bulls.
