Duncan, Myers Blast Bulls Past RailRiders

May 23, 2013
Moosic, PA --- Shelley Duncan and Wil Myers homered to lead the Durham Bulls past Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 8-5 in the series opener at PNC Field on Thursday night.
Duncan's first Bulls homer came on an 0-1 pitch from Brett Marshall (L, 2-3) to cap a four-run first. Vince Belnome tripled home a pair to get the Bulls (28-19) on the board.
Duncan's blast came against Marshall in the fourth inning, driving the first pitch out to left-center, Myers' fifth of the season.
The eight-run cushion was ample for Mike Montgomery (W, 1-0), who was making his first Bulls appearance since April 7th when he landed on the disabled list after his initial Rays organizational start. Montgomery worked five innings, allowing five hits and two runs to notch the victory.
The RailRiders (21-24), who lost for the 10th time in 11 games, chipped away with a run in the sixth against reliever Steve Geltz, and then added two in the ninth as the long-anticipated heavy rains finally began to fall. The game was delayed with two outs in the ninth after Adam Liberatore allowed a run-scoring double to bring in Scranton's second run of the inning and never resumed.
The Bulls 12-hit attack was paced by two-hit games from Duncan, Cole Figueroa, Juan Apodaca and Brandon Guyer. Belnome's triple extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Alex Colome (3-5, 2.86) starts Friday night at 7:05 PM ET against RH Graham Stoneburner (2-2, 3.00).
