DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 6-2 loss to the Charlotte Knights at the DBAP Tuesday night.
Durham's offense was kept quiet by Charlotte starter Jordan Stephens (3-2), who earned the win by surrendering three hits over six innings with seven strikeouts.
On the offensive side of the diamond, the Knights took an early lead on a solo homer by Matt Skole in the third, and added a run in the fifth on a passed ball for a 2-0 advantage. The visitors plated a pair in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Dustin Garneau, and scored twice more in the ninth on Alex Presley's single to right. Justin Williams launched a two-run homer over the Blue Monster in the bottom of the ninth, but that's all the Bulls could muster in the opener of a six-game homestand.
Kean Wong tallied two of Durham's five hits, giving him his sixth multi-hit effort over his last nine games. Adam Moore (1-1) took the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) across 4.1 frames.
The Bulls and Knights close their two-game set Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at the DBAP. Right-hander Ryan Weber (2-2, 2.40) takes the mound for Durham opposite righty Donny Roach (6-2, 3.25) for Charlotte.
