Stripers Beat Bulls 3-1

Stripers starting pitcher Michael Soroka tossed six strong innings and second baseman Braden Shewmake homered, while shortstop Osleivis Basabe scored on first baseman Kyle Manzardo’s sacrifice fly in Gwinnett’s 3-1 win over Durham on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. The Bulls scored in the first thanks to Manzardo’s sacrifice fly.

Stripers starting pitcher Michael Soroka tossed six strong innings and second baseman Braden Shewmake homered, while shortstop Osleivis Basabe scored on first baseman Kyle Manzardo’s sacrifice fly in Gwinnett’s 3-1 win over Durham on Tuesday night at Coolray Field.

The Bulls scored in the first thanks to Manzardo’s sacrifice fly. The Stripers answered in the following inning when Shewmake homered and 1B Joshua Fuentes knocked an RBI single. Gwinnett solidified the win in the fifth inning when CF Eli White drove in a run to bring the final score to 3-1.

Soroka (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 SO) earned the win, while Bulls starter Yonny Chirinos (5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO) suffered the loss.

The two teams are set to face off again on Wednesday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Pitchers for both teams are to be announced.

Durham returns home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Monday, May 29 to start a six-game homestand with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. First pitch of the series opener is set for 5:05pm.
