Bulls starting pitcher Yonny Chirinos tossed four shutout innings and shortstop Osleivis Basabe tallied two hits, however five Stripers pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout and Gwinnett left fielder Nick Solak slashed a home run in a 2-0 victory to snap Durham’s four-game win streak on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field.

Stripers hurlers Nolan Kingham (3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 SO), Ty Tice (2.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 5 SO), Matt Swarmer (2.0 IP, 3 SO), Brian Moran (1.0 IP, SO) and Grant Holmes (1.0 IP, H, SO) combined to yield just four hits and two walks in the shutout victory, with Swarmer earning the win and Holmes notching the save. Chirinos (4.0 IP, H, BB, 6 SO) allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out six of the 16 batters he faced, though he did not factor in the final decisions. Bulls reliever Luis Patino (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB) suffered the defeat.

Both teams traded zeroes until the sixth, when Gwinnett broke through with a single tally by taking advantage of a Bulls fielding miscue. Solak would then smash his solo shot one inning later to extend the Stripers’ advantage to two. Durham’s best chance came in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs, however they were unable to come through with a clutch hit. The Bulls also put the tying run at the plate in the ninth yet did not erase the deficit.

Basabe (2-3, BB) recorded two of his club’s four hits, reaching base a total of three times thanks to a walk. No Stripers hitters tallied a multi-hit effort.

After taking four of six from Gwinnett, Durham returns home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Monday, May 29 to begin a seven-game homestand hosting the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. First pitch of that contest is slated for 5:05pm. LHP Jacob Lopez is anticipated to get the nod for the Bulls and is slated to be opposed by Jumbo Shrimp RHP Ronald Bolaños.

Tickets for that game and all 2023 Durham Bulls home games are available, and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
