Tyler Glasnow & Manuel Margot Acquired by Dodgers in Trade

The Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday announced a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sending former Bulls right-hander Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot to the Dodgers, with the Rays acquiring right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca. The Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday announced a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sending former Bulls right-hander Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot to the Dodgers, with the Rays acquiring right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca.

Glasnow pitched with Durham for parts of three seasons (2019, 2022-23) as part of Major League Rehab Assignments, combining for no record and 0.79 ERA (22.2 IP), adding nine walks compared to 37 strikeouts. This past season he made four starts for the Bulls, combining to yield a lone earned run over 13.1 innings, adding 20 punchouts compared to five walks.

Over his six seasons with Tampa Bay after being acquired in a July 31, 2018 trade from Pittsburgh, Glasnow compiled a 27-16 record and 3.20 ERA (388.1 IP) in 71 starts, along with 526 strikeouts. Along with Glasnow, the Rays acquired outfielder Austin Meadows and right-hander Shane Baz in that trade from Pittsburgh in exchange for right-hander Chris Archer. Combined across eight seasons and 127 games (88 starts) between the Rays and Pirates organizations, Glasnow has accumulated a 30-27 record and 3.89 ERA (529.2 IP), adding 212 walks and 678 strikeouts.

Margot has also played for Durham as part of Major League Rehab Assignments, appearing in ten games between the 2021-23 campaigns. In those matchups he combined for a .359 average (14-39), adding ten runs, one double and seven RBI, including five hits in six at-bats with the Bulls this past season over a period of two games.

After being acquired by the Rays in a deal with the San Diego Padres on February 8, 2020 along with catcher Logan Driscoll, Margot posted a .264 average (320-1213) across 360 contests, adding 149 runs, 66 doubles, six triples, 19 homers and 153 RBI. Between Tampa Bay and San Diego has combined for a .255 clip (667-2612) along with 315 runs, 133 doubles, 25 triples, 52 homers and 283 RBI.

Pepiot spent the first half of the 2023 campaign on the injured list with a left oblique strain and started the year in July with Oklahoma City (AAA) as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment before being activated on August 2. Across eight games (three starts) with Los Angeles, he posted a 2-1 record and 2.14 ERA (42.0 IP), adding 38 strikeouts compared to just five walks. The right-hander tallied an 0-2 mark and 3.97 ERA (22.2 IP) in six starts as well with Oklahoma City.

The 26-year-old made his Major League debut on May 11, 2022 and has combined for a 5-1 clip and 2.76 ERA (78.1 IP) in 17 MLB outings (ten starts), along with 32 walks and 80 strikeouts. He was selected by the Dodgers in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Butler University and has accumulated a 14-12 mark and 3.51 ERA (238.2 IP) in 64 minor league appearances (55 starts), adding 298 strikeouts.

Deluca split the 2023 campaign between three different levels of the Dodgers organization, starting in Tulsa (AA) before being promoted to Oklahoma City (AAA) on May 16. Less than a month later he would make his Major League debut with Los Angeles on June 7 and appeared in 24 games, tallying a .262 mark (11-42) with five runs, one double, two homers and six RBI. In 73 games between Tulsa and Oklahoma City this past season he compiled a .294 average (82-279), adding 56 runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 17 homers and 53 RBI, helping lead Oklahoma City to a Pacific Coast League title.

The 25-year-old was selected by the Dodgers in the 25th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Oregon. In 298 career minor league tilts he has recorded a .271 average (310-1146), adding 223 runs, 70 doubles, 14 triples, 65 homers and 201 RBI along with an .883 OPS.

The Bulls begin the 2024 campaign on the road against the Norfolk Tides on Friday, March 30 before starting their home slate by hosting a six-game homestand starting on Tuesday, April 2 against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
