The International League announced Durham Bulls infielder/outfielder Kean Wong and relief pitcher Ian Gibaut have been named to the league's All-Star team for the 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11 in Columbus, Ohio.
Wong, 23, leads the I.L. with a .319 batting average over 59 games (73-for-229) and is fourth on the circuit with a .380 on-base percentage. The Hawaii native, who has spent time at second base, third base and left field this season, is batting .337 over the month of June, and has reached base safely in 13 straight contests. The younger brother of St. Louis Cardinals infielder Kolten Wong, Kean has six home runs and 31 RBI in 2018, and was named the 2017 Triple-A National Championship Game MVP after blasting a grand slam in the Bulls' 5-3 victory over the Memphis Redbirds. The selection to his league's all-star team marks the third time in his career he's earned midseason All-Star honors, joining his selections in 2014 with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Single-A) and 2016 with the Montgomery Biscuits (Double-A).
Gibaut, 24, is 3-1 with a 1.65 ERA and five saves for Durham in 27 relief appearances, and ranks second among I.L. relief pitchers with a .156 batting average against. The right-hander has struck out 42 batters in 32 2/3 innings pitched, while surrendering just 17 hits. The all-star nod is the first of his career, after the Rays selected him in the 11th round of the 2015 draft out of Tulane.
The 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game will be held at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, July 11 at 7 p.m., and will be broadcast on MLB Network and Buzz Sports Radio.
