Chihuahuas Welcome 6 Millionth Fan at Southwest University Park
EL PASO, TEXAS – August 21, 2026 – The El Paso Chihuahuas celebrated a milestone at Southwest University Park by welcoming their 6 millionth fan, 14-year-old Simon Monger, whose connection to the ballpark dates to its very first game. EL PASO, TEXAS – August 21, 2026 – The El Paso Chihuahuas celebrated a milestone at Southwest University Park by welcoming their 6 millionth fan, 14-year-old Simon Monger, whose connection to the ballpark dates to its very first game.
Monger attended the game with his father, Kennie; mother, Angie; siblings Izzie and Eli; and his cousin Everett. In what was a full-circle moment, Simon was also the first person to enter Southwest University Park on its official Opening Day, April 28, 2014.
The Monger family traveled from Colorado to El Paso for the Chihuahuas inaugural home game, when Simon was just 2-years-old. After living in Colorado, the family recently returned to the Borderland and settled in Las Cruces.
Friday’s milestone almost did not happen. Angie had accidentally purchased tickets for Thursday’s game. What initially seemed like an inconvenience ultimately placed Simon at the gates at exactly the right moment.
“It was meant to be because we had some trouble getting our tickets,” Angie said. “We actually bought tickets for last night’s game, but we’re here now. We were like, ‘This is why.’”
As Monger walked through the gates, he was greeted by the Chihuahuas front office and gameday staff, sirens, and Chico. As part of the celebration, Monger and his family received a prize package that included a Chihuahuas swag bag, tickets to a future game, meal vouchers, and WestStar Club passes. Monger also threw out the ceremonial first pitch and joined Chihuahuas broadcaster Tim Hagerty on the air during the third inning.
A freshman and aspiring baseball player, Monger said his favorite part of attending Chihuahuas games is the opportunity to watch the sport he loves and learn more about the players.
“I love watching baseball and learning more about the players,” Monger said. “Being Triple-A, you don’t know much about them, but I feel like it’s pretty cool to learn more about them.”
From the first fan to the 6 millionth, Monger’s story is a reminder that Chihuahuas baseball brings families together and creates lasting memories.’

The Chihuahuas series against Round Rock continues Saturday, August 22, with the second day of Harry Potter Weekend. The evening features Harry Potter-themed promotions, a backpack ticket add-on for $30, and concludes with a Fireworks Spectacular. The series wraps up on Sunday with Kids Day, when fans ages 12 and younger can receive a Helmet Piggy Bank while supplies last.
