Chihuahuas Announce 2025 Opening Day Roster

The El Paso Chihuahuas and San Diego Padres have announced the 2025 Triple-A Opening Day roster. It includes 12 returning players and 16 players with MLB experience.

The Chihuahuas open the 2025 season on Friday, March 28 at 6:35 p.m. at home against the Salt Lake Bees, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. The players are listed alphabetically below:

Wes Benjamin, Pitcher: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in February of 2025… Appeared in 21 major league games with Texas from 2020-2021… Pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization from 2022-2024.

Ryan Bergert, Pitcher: Drafted by San Diego in the sixth round of the 2021 June Amateur Draft out of West Virginia University… Started 23 games for Double-A San Antonio in 2024.

Jason Blanchard, Pitcher: Drafted by San Diego in the ninth round of the 2019 June Amateur Draft out of Lamar University… Appeared in 41 games for Double-A San Antonio in 2024.

Raul Brito, Pitcher: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in December of 2022… Pitched in the Miami Marlins organization from 2016-2022… Appeared in 33 games for Double-A San Antonio in 2024.

Trenton Brooks, Outfielder: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in November of 2024… Made his major league debut with San Francisco in 2024… Has also played in the Cleveland and Oakland organizations.

Mike Brosseau, Infielder: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in December of 2024… Has played parts of five seasons in MLB with Tampa Bay and Milwaukee… Divided the 2024 season between Triple-A Syracuse (New York Mets affiliate) and Triple-A Omaha (Kansas City Royals affiliate).

Luis Campusano, Catcher: Drafted by San Diego in the second round of the 2017 June Amateur Draft out of Cross Creek High School in Georgia… Has played parts of five seasons in the major leagues with San Diego… Has spent parts of the 2021-2024 seasons with the Chihuahuas as a member of the roster or on MLB rehab assignments.

Harold Chirino, Pitcher: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in November of 2024… Pitched in the Milwaukee Brewers organization from 2016-2024… Split the 2024 season with Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville.

Tom Cosgrove, Pitcher: Drafted by San Diego in the 12^th round of the 2017 June Amateur Draft out of Manhattan University in New York… Appeared in 72 major league games with San Diego from 2023-2024… Has pitched for the Chihuahuas for parts of the 2022-2024 seasons.

Austin Davis, Pitcher: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in January of 2025… Has appeared in 143 major league games with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Boston, Minnesota and San Diego… Split the 2024 season between the Chihuahuas and San Diego.

Clay Dungan, Infielder/Outfielder: Acquired by San Diego from Kansas City in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft in December of 2023… Split the 2024 season between El Paso and Double-A San Antonio… Played games at second base, third base, shortstop, center field and left field last season.

Jake Higginbotham, Pitcher: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in December of 2024… Originally drafted by Atlanta in the 11^th round of the 2018 June Amateur Draft out of Clemson University… Pitched for Double-A Erie (Detroit Tigers affiliate) in 2024.

Connor Joe, Outfielder: Signed a major league contract with San Diego in February of 2025… Has played in 438 major league games with San Francisco, Colorado and Pittsburgh from 2019-2024… Previously played in the Pacific Coast League with Oklahoma City and Albuquerque.

Ron Marinaccio, Pitcher: Acquired by San Diego from the Chicago White Sox in a trade in January of 2025… Appeared in 101 major league games with the New York Yankees from 2022-2024… Originally drafted by the Yankees in the 19^th round of the 2017 June Amateur Draft out of the University of Delaware.

Mason McCoy, Infielder: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in November of 2023… Has appeared in 25 major league games with Toronto and San Diego from 2023-2024… Split the 2024 season between El Paso and San Diego.

Brett Sullivan, Catcher: Acquired by San Diego in a trade with Milwaukee in April of 2022… Has spent parts of three seasons with El Paso (2022-2024) and parts of two seasons with San Diego (2023-2024).

Forrest Wall, Outfielder: Signed a minor league contract with San Diego in January of 2025… Appeared in 31 major league games for Atlanta and Miami from 2023-2024… Originally drafted in the first round of the 2014 June Amateur Draft out of Orangewood Christian High School in Florida.
