The El Paso Chihuahuas put the go-ahead run on base with one out in the ninth inning Saturday night at Las Vegas Ballpark but lost to the Las Vegas Aviators 6-4. The Aviators have won three of the first five games of the series.
The Chihuahuas scored in each of their first two innings for the second straight game Saturday. Right fielder Bryce Johnson hit a solo home run in the top of the first, his second homer with El Paso this season. Johnson also walked three times in the loss. First baseman Trenton Brooks hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning, his seventh home run of the season and second in as many games. Four of Brooks’ seven home runs this season have come against Las Vegas. Brooks also hit an RBI double Saturday and has 32 RBIs this season, which is tied for fourth most in the Pacific Coast League.
Chihuahuas starting pitcher Ryan Bergert threw four shutout innings and El Paso starters haven’t allowed any earned runs in the past two games, spanning nine innings. Francis Pena and Reiss Knehr both had scoreless relief appearances for El Paso Saturday.
