The Las Vegas Aviators trailed 7-3 in the sixth inning but came back to beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 11-7 Tuesday night at Southwest University Park. It was the opening game of a six-game series.
Chihuahuas leadoff hitter Tyler Wade reached base four times on two singles, a walk and a hit by pitch in his first home game with the team. El Paso right fielder Yonathan Perlaza went 1-for-4 with a two-run triple and a sacrifice fly. Aviators right fielder Colby Thomas went 3-for-5 with solo home run and fell a double shy of the cycle.
After starting his season with four scoreless appearances, Chihuahuas reliever Kevin Kopps allowed one run in a three-inning appearance on Tuesday. El Paso sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning and scored five runs to match the team season high for runs in an inning. The Chihuahuas are now 2-2 through their first four home games.
