Altoona Spoils UPMC Park Opener

The SeaWolves dropped their fifth straight game on Friday night, falling in the home opener at UPMC Park, 6-2 to the Altoona Curve.
Altoona jumped ahead against Erie starter Spencer Turnbull in the top of the second inning. Logan Hill led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on a groundout. He scored on a Pablo Reyes fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead.
Erie tied the game in the home half of the second against Curve starter Dario Agrazal. Kenny Wilson and Jacob Robson connected on back-to-back two out singles to keep the inning alive for Josh Lester. Lester singled home Wilson, tying the game.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the third. Troy Montgomery led off with a single and moved to second on a Harold Castro groundout. He scored on a Dominic Ficociello two-out single to make it 2-1.
Altoona regained the lead in the fourth. Hill and Jason Martin started the inning with back-to-back sinlges. Ke'Bryan Hayes reached on a fielder's choice with Erie retiring the lead runner at third. Pablo Reyes walked to load the bases for Elvis Escobar. Escobar connected on a bases-clearing triple, giving the Curve a 4-2 lead. Escobar then scored on a two-out Cole Tucker base hit for a 5-2 lead.
The Curve would add a run in the eighth to extend the lead to 6-2 against reliever Fernando Perez. Martin led off with a triple and scored on a Hayes sacrifice fly for the final run of the night.
Agrazal (1-0) earned the win for Altoona. He allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts in five innings of work.
Turnbull (0-1) took the loss allowing five runs on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Erie reliever Matt Hall hurled 2.2 scoreless frames in relief of Turnbull, collecting a season-high four strikeouts.
The SeaWolves and Curve meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Park at 1:35 p.m. RHP Kyle Funkhouser (0-0, 6.00 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against LHP Brandon Waddell (0-0, 1.59 ERA).
