Bergner Strong as SeaWolves Take Down Curve 4-2

The Erie SeaWolves defeated the Altoona Curve 4-2 on Thursday at Peoples Natural Gas Field after picking up their third quality start in as many days.

Altoona opened the scoring in the third with a solo homer from Lolo Sanchez off Erie starter Austin Bergner.

Erie tied up the game 1-1 in the fourth with a solo homer from Parker Meadows against Curve starter Luis Ortiz. It was Meadows's fourth long ball of the season and he extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games. It’s the longest hitting streak by a SeaWolves batter in 2022.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the seventh. Ortiz opened the frame by hitting Quincy Nieporte with a pitch and issued a walk to Andre Lipcius. Dillon Dingler grounded a ball up the middle to plate Nieporte. Two batters later, Chris Rabago roped a two-run double against reliever Will Kobos to put the SeaWolves up, 4-1.

Altoona cut the deficit to two in the eighth. Jared Triolo brought in Henry Davis with a sacrifice fly off of Adam Wolf.

Zac Houston notched his second save of the series. He worked around a one-out hit by pitch and a two-out walk to seal the victory. The Mississippi State product extended his scoreless streak to 11.2 innings.

Bergner (4-2) earned the win with his third quality start of the season. He tossed six innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking two, and striking out seven. The Florida native has won each of his last three starts.

Ortiz (2-4) received the loss. He gave up four runs in six-plus innings of work.
