Troy Melton struggled on the mound for Erie. In the second inning, he walked two batters to begin the frame. Both scored with two out on a two-run double by Yordys Valdes, making it 2-0 Akron.

Akron plated two more in the third inning. The first scored on Chase DeLauter’s first Double-A home run. The solo shot made it 3-0. After a single and a walk, Joe Lampe’s RBI double scored a fourth.

The RubberDucks added tack-on runs in the seventh and eighth against Andrew Magno and Trevin Michael. In the seventh, DeLauter scored Kahlil Watson on a sacrifice fly after Watson had tripled. Kody Huff had an RBI single in the eighth to make it 6-0.

Erie hitters managed four hits. They went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Akron starter Ryan Webb (1-0), who tossed five scoreless frames, earned the win. Melton (0-1) took the loss.
