Parker Meadows Leads Erie to Third Straight Win

Parker Meadows cashed in on a four-hit, four-RBI night to give the Erie SeaWolves a 6-3 win over the Reading Fightin Phils at UPMC Park on Wednesday.

Reading took the lead in the second. Kevin Vicuna began the frame with a walk against Wilmer Flores. Jonathan Guzman lifted an RBI double to give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead.

Erie responded in the bottom of the second. Andrew Navigato and Gage Workman had back-to-back one-out walks off of Carlo Reyes. Luis Carpio lined a single to center to bring in Navigato. Andre Lipcius walked to load the bases. Parker Meadows delivered a two-run single against Matt Seelinger to put the SeaWolves ahead, 3-1.

Flores received the no-decision. He tossed three innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking one, and striking out one.

Erie tacked on another run in the fourth. Carpio led off with a walk against Erik Miller and moved to second on a wild pitch. Meadows brought in Carpio with an RBI single to pull the SeaWolves ahead, 5-1.

The Fightin Phils added a run in the fifth. Simon Muzziotti drilled a solo homer off of Adam Wolf to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Reading tacked on a run in the sixth. Jhailyn Ortiz began the frame with a single. Vicuna collected his second RBI of the night with a double to make it a 4-3 game.

Erie retaliated in the home half of the sixth. Parker Meadows ripped a solo homer to right to put the SeaWolves on top, 6-3. It was his eighth long ball of the season. Meadows’s four-hit day at the plate was the first by a SeaWolf player since Kerry Carpenter had four hits against New Hampshire on May 20.

Bubba Derby inherited a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the ninth. He only needed one pitch to garner a popout to lock down his second save of the season.

Zac Houston (1-5) earned the win. He held down the fort in the seventh and the eighth inning with two perfect frames. Houston allowed no runs, no hits, and no walks while striking out four. It was his first win since July 23, 2021 when he was with High-A West Michigan.

Reyes (0-1) received the loss. He was tagged for three runs in 1.2 innings.
