Patriots Shut Out SeaWolves on Saturday

The SeaWolves were shut out by the Somerset Patriots, 5-0, on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark. The ‘Wolves need a win on Sunday to force a series split and to take the season series over the Patriots.

Somerset took a lead in the first inning when Donny Sands clubbed an opposite-field, two-run home run off of Erie starter A.J. Ladwig.

The Pats added a run in the third when Aaron Palensky and Diego Castillo connected on back-to-back doubles and a run in the fourth on a double steal with runners on the corners.

The game’s final run came in the sixth against Erie reliever Cale Coshow. Thomas Milone singled with one out, stole second and scored on an Isiah Gilliam double.

The Erie offense collected six hits in the game but did not get a runner past second base in the game. Kerry Carpenter led the way with a pair of knocks.

Somerset starter Glenn Otto (6-3) earned the win hurling six shutout frames, allowing four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. Otto has not allowed a run over his past two starts.

Ladwig (3-3) took the loss allowing four runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

The SeaWolves and Patriots meet in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. LHP Joey Wentz (0-1, 5.73 ERA) starts for Erie against RHP Nick Green (1-1, 3.86 ERA).
