SeaWolves Down RubberDucks to Win Third Straight

The SeaWolves won their third consecutive game as they took down the Akron RubberDucks, 7-2, in the series opener on Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Erie struck in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Ryan Kreidler singled with one out and Drew Ward followed with a two-out knock. Andre Lipcius, in his first Double-A at-bat, singled home Kreidler for a 1-0 lead. Josh Lester then reached on an error allowing Ward to score.

The SeaWolves added to the lead in the fourth. Lipcius led off and drew a four-pitch walk. Lester then blasted his fourth home run of the season for a 4-0 Erie lead.

In the top of the fifth, Riley Greene led off against reliever Eric Mock and belted a solo home run to right. His fifth of the season made it 5-0.

Akron got on the board in the last of the fifth against Erie starter Ricardo Pinto. Jose Fermin and Tyler Freeman started with back-to-back singles. Richie Palacios reached on a fielder’s choice putting runners on the corners. Alex Call doubled home Fermin making it 5-1. Trenton Brooks followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Palacios, cutting the Erie lead down to three runs at 5-2.

The ‘Wolves went back up by five runs in the seventh against Francisco Perez. Kreidler singled with two outs and Kerry Carpenter doubled putting runners on second and third. Ward then doubled to the opposite field, plating both baserunners for a 7-2 lead.

Max Green and Ethan DeCaster combined to keep the RubberDucks off the scoreboard over the final four innings of the game. The duo combined to allow just two hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

Pinto (2-1) earned the win allowing two runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings.

Royalty (1-1) took the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings.
