The Mariners have called up right-handed pitching prospect Bryan Woo. The starter spent part of the 2022 season with the Frogs, making seven starts. In 32 innings, Woo had a 4.78 ERA and struck out 46. He is expected to make his MLB debut and get the start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers.

Woo shot through the Mariners system, spending less than two full seasons in the minor leagues before making it to the big club. The Oakland, California native has spent the beginning of the 2023 season in AA with the Arkansas Travelers where he has a stellar 2.05 ERA over 44 innings in nine starts. Woo has also struck out 59 in Arkansas, more than one hitter per inning.

Recently, he was named the Mariners Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May after going 3–2 with a 2.33 ERA (7 ER, 27.0 IP) with 8 walks and 32 strikeouts in five May starts for the Travelers. It marks the second consecutive Mariners Minor League Pitcher of the Month Award for Woo after he posted a 1.59 ERA (3 ER, 17.0 IP) with 4 walks and 27 strikeouts in four April starts.

Woo was selected by Seattle in the 6th round of the 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of California State Polytechnic University. He is currently the number six prospect in the Mariners system according to MLB pipeline.

He is the sixth former AquaSox to make his debut this season joining Bryce Miller (2022), Jose Cabellero (2021), Levi Stoudt (2021), Juan Then (2019, 2021), and Brandon Williamson (2019, 2021).

The right-hander has a fastball that regularly sits at 99 MPH with late-stage movement, with a slider and changeup to go off of it. The Mariners adjusted his arm angle to a lower arm slot when he was drafted and it paid immediate dividends in velocity and movement.
