ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday afternoon that Round Rock Express RHP Ernesto Frieri has been traded to the Seattle Mariners organization for cash considerations. The righty is expected to report to Triple-A Tacoma.
The Rangers signed Frieri as a minor league free agent on June 15. The 32-year-old Colombian appeared in seven games with the Express, posting an 0-1 record with a 1.42 ERA (1 ER/6.1 IP). He struck out 10 and walked three during two stints with the E-Train.
Frieri had his contract selected by the Rangers on June 17. He went on to make six relief appearances with the big league club, going 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA (4 ER/7.0 IP). Frieri was designated for assignment on July 4 before being outrighted back to Round Rock on July 17.
In a corresponding move, LHP Jimmy Reyes was activated from the disabled list. The lefty is 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA (28 ER/57.0 IP) in 29 appearances, including five starts, with Round Rock this season. Reyes had been on the disabled list since July 30.
The Express continue a four-game series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox tonight at Security Service Field. Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner (3-9, 6.46) is set to take the mound against Colorado Springs RHP Paolo Espino (4-1, 3.72). First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m.
