FREDERICK, MD – The 2025 season featured several former Keys making their MLB debuts including catcher J.C. Escarra, who played 40 games for the New York Yankees.

In his 40 games with New York, the Hialeah, Florida native recorded 11 RBIs and hit two home runs. Additionally, he helped the Yankees backstop throughout the first half of the season by now allowing any passed balls in 24 starts behind the plate.

Prior to being signed to the Yankees as a free agent on January 11, 2024, Escarra played for four different teams with his final experience in the Orioles farm system coming in 2021 for both Double-A Bowie (Chesapeake) and Triple-A Norfolk. In 58 games with the Tides, Escarra brought home 21 runs and served as one of their primary backstops during his first experience in Triple-A.

Escarra played with the Keys in 2018 and 2019, playing in 139 total games. During the 2019 season, he played 127 games as the team’s starting catcher, hitting 13 homers and bringing home 57 runs in the process.

In 2024, Escarra headed to the Yankees farm system and spent time with several teams, including his most recent stint with the Yankees Triple-A affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2024. While in Scranton, he played 52 games and had a .302 average before being called up to the Yankees in March 2025.

With Escarra continuing to show consistency in the Yankees lineup, he plans to assume more playing time entering his second season with New York in late March.

Watch these and more future stars as the Frederick Keys make their return to affiliated baseball next season as the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first home game will take place on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees) at the newly renovated Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. Single-game tickets and the promotional schedule will be released at a later date.
