FREDERICK, MD – Former Frederick Keys outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (2014) will begin a new chapter in his professional career in 2026 after signing a 2-year, $23 million deal with the Atlanta Braves back on December 10.
While in the Key City, Yastrzemski played in 23 games and recorded a .312 average with 19 RBIs before quickly moving to Double-A Bowie (now Chesapeake). He then stayed with the Baysox for four more seasons through 2018 before being dealt to the Giants prior to the 2019 campaign.
Yastrzemski, who played 23 games for the Keys back in 2014, spent six and a half seasons with the Giants and appeared in 790 contests. His best year in the Bay Area came during his first MLB season in 2019 when he hit a career-high 21 homers and delivered 55 RBIs. He followed that up during the shortened season in 2020 due to the pandemic with a .297 average and a career-best four triples in 54 games. After four and half more seasons, he headed to the City of Fountains as part of the MLB Trade Deadline on July 31, 2025, where he competed in 50 games for the Kansas City Royals.
During his seven-plus-year career in the big leagues, the Andover, Massachusetts native has played in 840 career games while posting a career batting average of .238. This past season, he compiled a .237 average with Kansas City and hit nine home runs while driving in 18 RBIs.
Watch these and more future stars as the Frederick Keys make their return to affiliated baseball next season as the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first home game will take place on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees) at the newly renovated Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
