FREDERICK, MD – Countdown to Opening Day continues with the calendar set to turn to March this weekend. Spring Training is moving along for the Baltimore Orioles as several top prospects made their 2026 debuts this week in Sarasota.
Newly signed first baseman Pete Alonso is off to a fantastic start as he already has two home runs in his first five games. Fellow first baseman Coby Mayo is 6-11 at the plate in his first four games, while right fielder Tyler O’Neil has gone 7-9 with a double and three RBIs in four games played.
Highly touted outfielder Vance Honeycutt already has a homer in each of his first two Spring Training games, with his most recent home run taking place Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Last year’s first round draft pick and catcher Ike Irish also made his 2026 debut this week and is primed for his first full season in affiliated baseball over the coming months.
On the pitching side, right-hander Trey Gibson leads the team in innings pitched with 5.2 innings on the season while recording five strikeouts and allowing only one walk. He’ll enter his third season of Minor League Baseball in 2026 after spending time with formerly High-A Aberdeen, Double-A Chesapeake, and Triple-A Norfolk last season.
The Orioles will continue Spring Training play Friday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates before hosting the Atlanta Braves this Saturday at 1:05 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. All these games lead up the Orioles Opening Day, which is set for Thursday, March 26 against the Minnesota Twins at Camden Yards.
Watch these and more future stars as the Frederick Keys make their return to affiliated baseball next season as the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first home game will take place on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees) at the newly renovated Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. Single-game tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online at Frederickkeys.com.
