Keys Secure Series Finale Win Over Blue Rocks

Frederick Scores Five Runs in Seventh Inning to Take Down Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE – The Frederick Keys secured the series finale win against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Nationals) Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 7-2 at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium. The Keys put home five runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn the victory on the road

WILMINGTON, DE – The Frederick Keys secured the series finale win against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Nationals) Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 7-2 at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

The Keys put home five runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn the victory on the road in Wilmington, as they finished the seven-game series with a win to get their 72nd win on the season overall.

Boston Bateman began his afternoon on a high note with two strikeouts in the bottom of the first, as he faced the minimum to keep it a scoreless game heading into the second.

Following the Keys and Blue Rocks trading zeros in the second inning of play, Bateman escaped a jam with a sixth strikeout in three innings, taking the game to the fourth with both teams knotted at 0-0.

The Keys took the lead in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI single from Braylin Tavera, giving Frederick a 1-0 advantage through four innings on Sunday afternoon, as Jack Crowder threw a scoreless bottom frame in his first game as a Key.

Ethan Anderson doubled the lead for the visitors in the top of the fifth on an RBI double, making it a 2-0 game approaching the sixth inning at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

After each side went off the board during the sixth, a five-run top of the seventh handed Frederick the 7-0 lead. To begin the inning, Anderson brought home RJ Austin in from third on an error in center field, with a wild pitch sending in Enddy Azocar for the second run.

From there, a two-run homer from Leandro Arias followed by a solo bomb from Jordan Sanchez capped off the five-run frame, giving the Keys their largest lead of the afternoon at seven going into the eighth in the First State.

Wilmington got their first runs of the day in the bottom of the eighth inning on a solo homer and RBI double, but Zac Lampton struck out the last batter he faced to take the contest into the ninth with the Keys still up five.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cohen Achen struck out the side in order to close the game, securing the series finale win for the Keys over the Blue Rocks, as they defeated Wilmington by a score of 6-2 at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

Following the league-wide off day on Monday, the Keys will host the Asheville Tourists (Astros) beginning Tuesday night for the final homestand of the regular season. First pitch in the series opener on Tuesday night is set for 7 p.m. from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
