WILMINGTON, DE – The Frederick Keys split a road doubleheader against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Nationals) Wednesday night winning game one by a score of 12-9 and falling in game two by a score of 8-4 at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

The Keys recorded 19 base hits during game one of two against the Blue Rocks to take game two of the seven-game series, as Frederick looks to get back in the win column during game four Thursday night on the road.

Game 1:

The Keys offense began on the right foot as they sent nine batters up to the plate while bringing in four runs. A solo homer from Enddy Azocar along with a bases-clearing three-RBI double from Yasmil Bucce put Frederick out in front by four through only one inning of play.

Leandro Arias doubled the lead on one swing in the top of the second courtesy of a grand slam to right field, making it an 8-0 lead for the Keys heading into the third in the first of two games on the evening.

After each team went scoreless in the third inning, the Keys added a ninth run on their tab off an RBI double from Colin Yeaman, handing Frederick a 9-0 advantage approaching the fifth inning from Wilmington.

Frederick sent in a 10th run on an RBI groundout from Jordan Sanchez in the top of the fifth, but the Blue Rocks put home four runs in the bottom frame to make it a 10-4 game heading into the sixth at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

Wilmington answered with one more run in the bottom of the sixth, but Brendan Parks struck out the side to finish his Keys debut strong, taking the game to the seventh still leading by four at 10-5.

RBI base hits from Jordan Sanchez and Bucce put Frederick’s lead back up to six, and despite Wilmington getting four runs in the bottom frame, Chandler Marsh struck out the last batter of the game, sealing the game one victory for the Keys by a score of 12-9 on the road.

Game 2:

After both sides went scoreless to begin game two, the Keys and Blue Rocks traded a run apiece in the second, with Wilmington getting theirs on a wild pitch and the Keys getting theirs on a fielding error. This took the game into the third with the score at 1-1 heading into the third inning.

Wilmington took a two-run lead with two runs in the top of the third inning, but a solo homer in the bottom frame from the former Blue Rock Randal Diaz put the Keys only down by one entering the fourth Wednesday night.

Three RBI base hits put the Blue Rocks ahead by four at 6-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Keys responded yet again with two more RBI base hits off the tabs of Azocar and Diaz, making it a 6-4 game going into the fifth at Frawley Stadium.

Following the Keys and Blue Rocks finishing with zeros in the fifth inning of play, a wild pitch and RBI sacrifice fly for Wilmington increased their advantage back to four at 8-4, as the Keys looked for a rally heading into the seventh trailing by four runs.

Ben Vespi went on to throw a 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning of relief, but the Keys went down in order to finish the night, as the Blue Rocks took down the Keys in game two of the doubleheader, winning by a score of 8-4.
