P-Nats IF Adrian Sanchez Nabs Carolina League Player of the Week Award

Sanchez Launches First Home Run while batting .600 Over the Week

Woodbridge, VA--The Potomac Nationals are pleased to announce today that IF Adrian Sanchez has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the period of June 22nd - June 28th.

Sanchez, hailing from Maracaibo, Venezuela swatted .600 over the period, going 6-for-10 in three games. He scored two runs, added two extra-base hits, including launching his first home run of the season against the first-place Wilmington Blue Rocks. He led the Carolina League with 10 total bases while not striking out and finished with an OPS of .600 and a SLG of 1.000.

Sanchez came to Potomac on June 15th and in 10 games in a Red, White and Blue uniform he's hit .290, picking up nine hits in 31 at-bats. The 6'0", 160-pounder has touched the plate six times, while adding two doubles, a home run, five RBIs and three stolen bases without being caught.

The 24-year old began the season with Double-A Harrisburg and combined with his P-Nats time he has hit .223 in 38 games with the Senators, reaching safely 25 times in 112 trips to the plate. The right-handed swinger scored 16 times, hit six doubles, two home runs and drove in 13 while drawing seven free passes.

Sanchez was originally signed as an international free agent by the Washington Nationals in 2007 and began his professional career with the Dominican Summer League Nationals 1 squad at the Rookie level. He is also a four-time Potomac National, spending all of 2012 and 2013 in Woodbridge, VA and parts of 2014 and now 2015. In a P-Nats uniform Sanches is a .262 hitter (244-for-930) over 260 games. He's scored 101 runs, wacked 39 doubles, eight triples and hit five home runs. The Venezuelan born infielder has driven 88, walked 36 times and swiped forty bags for Potomac. In nine professional season in the Nationals organization Sanchez is a .263 hitter (653-for-2483) with 121 doubles, 15 triples and twenty home runs adding 268 RBIs, 116 walks and 104 stolen bases in 687 games.

The honor marks the first weekly award Sanchez has earned in his professional career and he becomes the third Potomac National to garner the Carolina League's weekly honor but first position player to bring it home after RHP Brian Rauh (April 20th - 26th) and RHP Dakota Bacus (May 11th - May 17th), both now with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators, earned the Carolina League Pitcher of the week Award earlier in the campaign.

The P-Nats hauled in five weekly honors in 2014, including 1B/DH Kevin Keyes,RHP Austin Voth (two), 3B/DH Oscar Tejeda and RHP Ian Dickson, who all claimed Carolina League Player of the Week Awards a season ago.
