Let's Be Frank

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY -In the first international rules extra-inning game in Hudson Valley Renegades history, shortstop Tyler Frank provided the game-winning single to left-center to give the Renegades a 4-3, 10 inning win Friday night over the Vermont Lake Monsters at Dutchess Stadium
The Renegades drew first blood in the third. With two out and shortstop Tyler Frank at first following a single, catcher Erik Ostberg lobbed a doubled down the leftfield line to score Frank and give Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead. Frank and Ostberg would team up again in the fifth to add some insurance. With one out, Frank was hit with a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a RBI double, this time a groundball down the rightfield line, by Ostberg to make it 2-0.
However, the Lake Monsters stormed back in the sixth thanks to one swing of the bat. After a fielder's choice and single put runners at first and second with one out, shortstop Jeremy Eierman belted a three-run homer over the leftfield wall to give the Lake Monsters a 3-2 lead. The dinger was Eierman's fourth of the season.
Hudson Valley came right back to tie the game in the bottom-half. After a leadoff walk by first baseman Allen Smoot, rightfielder Jake Stone rifled a triple down the rightfield line to knot the game up at three. However, Stone stood at third with no one out when reliever Brady Feigl a groundout, a fly out, and a strikeout without Stone advancing to keep the game tied.
Things stayed that way until the 10^th when the Lake Monsters put runners at the corners with one away. However, Renegades reliever B.J. Myers got leftfielder Payton Squier to get Hudson Valley out of the jam. In the bottom-half, Dodson started at second before Frank provided the heroics.
The win went to Myers whose double-play ball was the only 0.2 he would pitch on the evening. The win moved him to 2-0 for the season. The tough-luck loser was Vermont relief man Brandon Withers (1-1) who allowed the game-winning unearned run on a hit in one-plus frame.
Though he didn't figure in the decision, reliever Simon Rosenblum-Larson helped get the Renegades to the promised land by going 3.1 scoreless frames while allowing no hits, walking one and striking out five. The homerun allowed by Hudson Valley starter Nick Padilla to Eierman snapped a string of 15.2 scoreless innings by the right-hander.
Hudson Valley had eight hits with two apiece coming from Frank and Ostberg. Frank singled twice, scored twice, and drove in the game-winner, while Ostberg doubled twice and drove in two runs. Stone chipped in by going 2-4 with an RBI triple. Vermont had six hits with no one registering more than one.
The Renegades will take on the Vermont Lake Monsters tomorrow in game two of their three-game series Dutchess Stadium with a 6:05 start. Left-hander Blake Pflughaupt (2-1, 2.96 ERA) will toe the bump for Hudson Valley against fellow southpaw Jhenderson Hurtado (2-2, 3.03 ERA). There will be fireworks following the game.
