Lockwood Locked-In

July 10, 2014

Wappingers Falls, NY (7/9/14)-- Hunter Lockwood homered twice in the Hudson Valley Renegades 11-3 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Wednesday night.

Lockwood's first homerun was part of a five run bottom of the fourth inning that gave the Renegades a 7-1 lead. He finished the day 5-5 with 6 RBI's in his teams largest offensive outing this season.

Hudson Valley started off quickly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Braxton Miller led off with a single and advanced to third on a Jace Conrad base hit. He then scored on a Mahoning Valley passed ball to give his team the first lead of the game. Lockwood added to that lead, singling home Conrad with a line drive to left-field. After one, Hudson Valley led 2-0.

Taylor Murphy got one back for the Scrappers in the top half of the second, with a solo home run to right-field. Cutting the deficit to one, the game would remain there until the bottom of the fourth.

The Renegades broke that scoreless drought with an offensive explosion in the fourth inning. Daniel Miles led off with a single and then stole second. Chris Talley drove home Miles with a single to give his team a 3-1 advantage. Casey Gillaspie then singled home Talley, bringing the Renegades lead to four runs. With two runners on Lockwood connected on his first homer of the game, scoring Gillaspie and Conrad. Hudson Valley led 7-0 after four.

The Renegades added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings. In the 6th, Alec Sole singled home Lockwood, and Miles would score on a Scrapper wild pitch. After Mahoning Valley plated two in the top of the seventh, the Renegades immediately responded. Lockwood capped off his brilliant night with a towering two run homer to center-field.

Oscar Armenta picked up his second win, improving to 2-0 this season. The lefty went six innings of one-run baseball with four strikeouts and no walks.
