The game was scoreless through four innings, with Iowa being held hitless until the fifth inning. In the fifth inning, the I-Cubs exploded for six runs. Jordan Nwogu scored the first run of the game on an RBI double. Matt Shaw drove in another run on an RBI single before Justin Dean blew the inning open with a Little League grand slam.

Omaha hit a three-run home run with two outs in the sixth inning to cut the Iowa lead to three. The I-Cubs got a run back in the seventh inning on a Chas McCormick RBI single to close the scoring.

Iowa starter Kohl Franklin pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one walk and two hits while striking out a season high seven batters. Reliever Connor Noland earned his first save of the season after pitching 3.1 innings and allowing just one run.
